David Rosenstraus is the founder of the Fossil Free Fuel conversion collective and a co-founder of Fossil Free Fuel conversion kit company. In 2002, David began to research the use of vegetable oil as fuel, and upon graduating from Muhlenberg College in 2003, he put that research to practice by converting a retired ambulance. Though not successful, the vehicle was a great teaching tool and enabled David to convert his 1998 Volkswagen Jetta a few months later. Since then, David has converted dozens of other vehicles of all makes and models under the name Fossil Free Fuel. He has also started a collection system in his town to collect waste oil from restaurants in order to fuel converted vehicles in his area. David also work will small businesses who desire using veggie oil powered vehicles.

David hopes to increase awareness of vegetable oil fuel, and convey it’s positive attributes. David’s projects have been garnered the attention of numerous national publications, and has been the subject of a PBS documentary. From touring with his bands in vegetable oil powered vans, to being interviewed by the New York times, David is spreading the word about eco-friendly driving.
