Nwenna Kai, is creator, founder, & culinary designer of Taste of the Goddess Cafe, an organic raw vegan restaurant in Los Angeles, CA she co-owns with Oscar Winner Forrest Whittaker. A native of Philadelphia and a graduate of Howard University and the School of the Art Institute, Kai infuses her love of art, food, community, health, and consciousness for the environment and the human spirit into her work, her cuisine, her restaurant, and her mission for the company and for the health of those who seek to attain better health.
As a young woman, Nwenna suffered from severe constipation, acne, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, vertigo, a thyroid disorder, hormonal imbalances, and a slew of other ailments.
In her early 20's she became tired of being sick so she decided adopt a raw foods diet. She fasted on salads and juices for a week and her constipation immediately cleared up. She then started taking raw food classes, buying books, visiting raw food restaurants, and experimenting in her kitchen. Her health gradually improved and she hasn't taken any medication since or felt ill.
Originally Kai moved to Los Angeles with an intention to produce and direct for Film/TV. While interning with Whitaker's now defunct production company Spirit Dance Entertainment she changed direction.
Inspired by her healthy turnaround, Nwenna started a raw foods company in her Pasadena home in 2004. Six months later, she found an old coffee shop and turned it into a raw food restaurant with Forrest as a partner.
Her mission is to open more restaurants, host a TV talk show, and create a eco-clothing line that creates a brand awareness to Taste of the Goddess Cafe.
